Dykema attorney elected chair of state bar’s IT Law Section
Mark G. Malven, the leader of Dykema’s Technology Transactions Practice, has been elected chairman of the Information Technology Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan.

Information technology (“IT”) law is an exciting cross-disciplinary practice area that is growing in importance as electronic communications and interactions continue to become more prevalent in the U.S. and abroad. An IT lawyer is confronted with legal issues from a wide variety of traditional legal practice areas, including but not limited to contracts, intellectual property, torts, employment, first amendment, healthcare, tax, and consumer protection. The application of long-standing as well as new legal principles to the area of information technology makes the practice of IT law both very challenging and very rewarding. The IT law section strives to assist its members in staying up to date and informed in a legal environment that is sometimes volatile and always in flux.

Malven is known for his skill in the negotiation of technology transactions and the representation of technology-based businesses. Malven was recognized as a Michigan Super Lawyer by the publishers of Law & Politics.

He has handled hundreds of strategic technology transactions and was one of the primary negotiators for two of the largest outsourcing transactions of their kind ever undertaken, involving billions of dollars in services.

A resident of Commerce Township, Malven splits his time between Dykema’s Ann Arbor and Bloomfield Hills offices. He received a B.S. in Engineering from Purdue University and a J.D., cum laude, from the University of Michigan.
