Judge Kirkendall ends 3-year run of weekly cooking column
Every week for nearly three years, retired Judge John Kirkendall has contributed to the Legal News publications a charming column on cooking called Kitchen Accomplice. In the welcoming and warm style of a most gracious host, Kirkendall shared his enthusiasm for dishes both complex and simple and was able to evoke an understanding that great recipes become memorable experiences when you mix in friends and family.

Today is Judge Kirkendall’s last Kitchen Accomplice.

We welcome — even encourage — readers to try to fill the void his leaving has created by submitting recipes of their own. We will gladly run recipes we receive every Monday on our Food Court page. And maybe there is a legal mind out there who’s a chef at heart and who would be interested in  a weekly cooking column . . .? Email submissions to bcox@legalnews.com or call (313) 967-5532 if you want to talk about an idea.

Chief judge announces changes to docket
Oakland County Circuit Court Chief Judge Nanci Grant has announced the following changes to the court’s docket:

With the impending retirement of Oakland County Circuit Judge John McDonald, effective Dec. 2, 2010, Judge McDonald’s civil/criminal docket will be reassigned to the remaining 13 judges of the Civil/Criminal Division of the Court.  Orders of reassignment will be mailed to attorneys beginning next week. These orders will be generated for all open cases, and for all closed cases that have had activity within the past year.  If a case is assigned to an eFiling judge, the case will become an eFiling case by order of the court. Judge McDonald’s seat will be eliminated at the expiration of the current term of office on January 1, 2011.

Also effective on Dec. 2, Judge Denise Langford Morris will join 11 other circuit judges in the eFiling program. Subsequently, Judge Leo Bowman will change over to an eFiling docket on Dec. 14. Attorneys and self-represented parties will be able to eFile their legal documents to the court and electronically serve those documents to opposing counsel.

To ensure effective processing of documents filed with the Circuit Court, it is important for attorneys and pro per litigants whose non-eFiling cases are involved in the reassignment process to get new bar code labels for their cases from the Oakland County Clerk’s Office.
