‘Pure Michigan’ campaign starts $2.6M fall push

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — The state’s “Pure Michigan” tourism campaign is launching a $2.6 million fall advertising push and has revamped its website.
The Michigan Economic Development Corp. on Wednesday said the revamped website will feature an interactive map as well as a trip planner tool.
The state says the new website also uses design that eliminates the need to create different sites for different Internet devices.
The fall campaign runs through Oct. 1. It targets several states as well as in-state markets. Billboards also will be put up in southern Ontario.

Grand jury wants records of city’s trash operations

WARREN, Mich. (AP) — A suburban Detroit mayor says a federal grand jury wants records about Warren’s trash trucks.
A subpoena from the grand jury seeks documents about the purchase of trash trucks and records that explain the relationship between Warren and a company that runs Detroit’s trash incinerator.
Warren Mayor Jim Fouts disclosed the grand jury probe this week. He says he’s shocked by the subpoena and has ordered the city attorney to cooperate. The documents include emails sent or received by a high-ranking official in the Public Services Department.
Warren’s trash is taken to a Detroit incinerator.

Owners of Mich. dog killed by police get support

ST. LOUIS, Mich. (AP) — Friends and neighbors in a mid-Michigan community are rallying behind owners of a golden retriever that was fatally shot by a police officer.
The Morning Sun of Mount Pleasant reports supporters gathered Tuesday at the home where the dog named Scout lived in St. Louis, about 50 miles north of Lansing.
Mike Goetzinger says the officer had “no reason” to kill the dog owned by his brother Brian Goetzinger and his family.

Young man gets prison term in crash that killed 2

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) — A young man has received a prison term for a drunken driving crash on a West Michigan expressway exit ramp that killed two of his high school classmates.
Takunda Mavima, now 18, was sentenced Monday in Grand Rapids to at least 30 months. He earlier pleaded guilty to charges including drunken driving causing death.
