Court suspends Judge McCree

The Michigan Supreme Court has suspended Wayne County Circuit Judge Wade H. McCree without pay until further order of the court. He had already been placed on administrative leave in December.

McCree’s salary will be held in escrow until the final resolution of his disciplinary proceedings.

A motion to seal the Supreme Court file on the matter was also granted by the court, saying “With the exception of this order, the Supreme Court file is suppressed and shall remain confidential until further order of this Court.

A woman told a local television station in December that she was pregnant with McCree’s child and had text messages from him that discussed the disposition of her child support case, which was in McCree’s court. McCree responded that the woman was stalking him and attempting extortion, but the Wayne County Prosecutor’s office declined to bring charges.

It’s Judge McCree’s second brush with the Judicial Tenure Commission in less than a year. He was censured by the body in October 2012 after he texted a semi-clad photo of himself to a female court employee. He eventually made a public apology for sending the photo.
