On Tuesday, June 18, the Federal Bar Association – Eastern District of Michigan Chapter conducted a lunch and panel presentation as part of the College Pre-Law Summer Institute (CPSI) at Cooley Law School in Auburn Hills. Happy to help with the students were (l-r) Cooley Assistant Dean Lisa Halushka, Elizabeth Stafford of the U.S. Attorney’s Office Eastern District of Michigan, and Saura Sahu of Miller Canfield. “We’re here to encourage college level students from diverse, disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue careers in the law,” Stafford said. “That’s so important because we need the legal community to reflect the diversity of the community and there are a lot of challenges to that now.”

As part of the College Pre-Law Summer Institute (CPSI) at Cooley Law School, Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Leo Bowman (far left) invited the students to his courtroom for a tour and introduction to the judiciary on Thursday, June 27. The CPSI is being held at Cooley in Auburn Hills for the fourth year in partnership with Oakland University and the American Bar Association’s Council of Legal Education Opportunity (CLEO). It offers underprivileged students from 13 colleges and universities in five states and the country of Lebanon an opportunity to study the critical thinking skills necessary to succeed on the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) and in law school.
