Inmates receive job training prior to release to Detroit

DETROIT (AP) — A new program will provide job training to inmates to help them find employment after their release from correctional facilities in the Detroit area.

Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan’s office says Thursday that inmates will receive training in environmental construction work, culinary arts and hi-lo operation.

Duggan's office says those areas are showing a steady or growing demand for workers and that statistics show 76 percent unemployment in Wayne County for released inmates or prisoners.

Groups of about 25 inmates will receive training each month. Those who complete the program will receive certifications allowing them the opportunity to interview for positions after they are released.

The program is funded by a $4 million grant from the Michigan Talent Investment Agency and Labor department.

Application period for bail bondsmen to end

Pursuant to MCLA 750.167b, the Judges of the Circuit Court are to annually compile and maintain an up-to-date list of the names of persons engaged in the business of becoming surety upon bonds for compensation in criminal cases. The statute states: “The list shall be compiled annually by the Judges of the Circuit Court of each Circuit and the names of persons engaged in the business of becoming surety upon bonds for compensation shall be added to the list by the Judges upon proper application.”  The Court will circulate the 2017 Bail Bondsmen list to the appropriate agencies in accordance with the statute.

Accordingly, the Court Administrator has prepared two applications for bondsmen: one for persons backed by insurance and the other for persons backed by real property. Persons or businesses may apply for inclusion on the list under either category or both. (Statutory authority for this review appears in MCLA 765.20.)

The Bail Bondsman application period is ongoing and runs through Oct. 28.  Copies of the Bail Bondsman application are available on line at www.oakgov.com under Circuit Court Forms and Publications or in the Court Administration Office. Only current applications will be accepted and must include all of the accompanying documentation to be considered for the 2017 Bail Bondsman List. Applications must be hand delivered or mailed to Oakland County Circuit Court
Administration, 1200 North Telegraph Road, Pontiac, Michigan 48341, no later than October 28, 2016. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. You may contact Karen Koshen in the Court Administration Office at 248-858-0296 for more information.
