Metro Detroit IP attorney wins second Client Choice Award

Harness Dickey intellectual property attorney Beth Coakley has won the international Client Choice Award for “Intellectual Property – Trademarks” for 2017. Coakley is the only attorney in Michigan to win the award for Trademark Law this year. This is the second time in three years that she has been selected to receive the prestigious global award.

The Client Choice Award represents a unique honor as recipients can only be nominated by in-house counsel. Nominations are based on a range of criteria, including: quality of legal advice, industry knowledge, strategic thinking, effective communication, and loyalty.

Coakley’s clients gave the following feedback to the Client Choice investigating team pertaining to her legal experience, business acumen and commitment to serving firm clients:

• “She is a rare expert that is much more a partner than a supplier; she is engaging and I am continually impressed with her services.”

• “Beth has a special gift to look at projects in a variety of ways; she is able to develop creative strategies for unique trademark situations.”

• “She understands our company and industry inside and out; she has great flexibility in working with her clients and she is unerringly thorough.”

Coakley’s efforts to protect her clients’ assets include successfully shutting down counterfeiters in Asia and around the world by conducting counterfeit raids, seizing and destroying infringing goods at Customs facilities around the world, obtaining injunctions to halt production, and obtaining judgments that include awards for monetary damages.

Coakley is a veteran intellectual property attorney with more than 36 years of legal experience. Her practice has focused on trademark and branding protection for clients around the globe, spurring one client to remark that she knows worldwide trademark law “like the back of her hand.” She has extensive prosecution and litigation experience before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and in Federal and State Courts. She is also admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court.
