Making Meals

WMU-Cooley students with members of the Avondale High School Basketball team and the school’s principal Sharon Hyde. Avondale’s basketball team helped WMU-Cooley students with delivering the meals.

WMU-Cooley Law School’s Auburn Hills campus teamed up with Avondale High School to help feed 100 local families in the Auburn Hills community that would otherwise not be able to afford a Thanksgiving meal.

Each year, as part of the law school’s “Making Meals Happen” program, students collect potatoes, gravy, stuffing, green beans, corn, cranberry sauce, cornbread mix and gift cards for turkeys. Over the last nine years, students have donated over 1,500 meals.

“It’s a great feeling seeing students take time to help others,” said Professor Martha Moore, who has been involved with the ‘Making Meals Program’ since its beginning. “Because of these collaborative efforts, more than 200 families are getting a Thanksgiving meal this year.”
