AG Nessel announces promotions and addition to the department

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel this week announced promotions and a new addition to the department, saying, “I’m excited to appoint individuals not only with the skills and experience needed to be successful, but a true passion for the work required to serve and protect the people of Michigan.”

Christopher Allen has been promoted to assistant solicitor general. Allen, who brings more than seven years of experience as a practicing attorney, started his career with the department in 2015 as an assistant attorney general in the Criminal Appellate Division. Prior to joining the department, the University of Michigan Law School graduate served as a law clerk with the Michigan Supreme Court. In addition to his extensive appellate practice in state and federal court, Allen has been instrumental in the department’s investigations into clergy abuse within the Catholic diocese and Michigan State University as well as the prosecution of Larry Nassar.

Christina Grossi has been promoted to chief of special operations. A graduate of Thomas M. Cooley Law School with 15 years of experience in practicing law, Grossi began her career in private practice and joined the department in 2010. Grossi transitioned from a staff attorney in Public Employment, Elections and Tort Division to chief of litigation in the State Operations Division in 2013.
Grossi has worked on several high-profile cases and criminal investigations, including Michigan State University and the clergy abuse within the Catholic diocese. She most recently served as chief of the State Operations Division.

Lisa Geminick has returned to the department after serving as an administrator for the Michigan Department of Corrections Office of Legal Affairs. Geminick will lead the reestablished division that will litigate and represent the Michigan Department of Corrections. With nearly 20 years of complex civil litigation experience, the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law graduate was part of the Litigation Division at Dickinson Wright in Detroit and in private practice prior to her role as assistant attorney general for the department from 2012 to 2018.
