First Responders Honored

On Thursday, September 9, the Michigan House of Representatives held its annual ceremony at the state Capitol in Lansing to commemorate Michigan first responders lost in the line of duty during the past year, honor those lost in the Sept. 11 attacks and recognize first responders serving in Michigan communities today. State Rep. Stephanie Young (D-Detroit, second from right) welcomed Officer Tanda Owens, who retired from the Detroit Police Department and is currently an officer in the Detroit Public Schools District. Young was also joined by Lt. Roger Harper and retired Fire Fighter Sheryl Fox-Jason of the Detroit Fire Department who represented the family of Sgt. Sivad Johnson of Detroit Fire Department in memory of Sgt. Johnson’s service.
