State Supreme Court shifts November oral arguments to Zoom


The Michigan Supreme Court has revised its schedule for November oral arguments and will now hear all cases remotely via Zoom. Eleven cases will be heard on Tuesday and Wednesday, November 9 and 10. They will be livestreamed from the MSC YouTube page. No litigants or staff will be in the courtroom.The schedule of arguments is posted on the Supreme Court’s oral arguments web page.

 

Judge Berry to discuss ‘Preparing for Trials During COVID’ Nov. 9
 

The Association of Defense Trial Counsel (ADTC) will host its November membership meeting on Tuesday, November 9, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Andiamo, 400 Renaissance Center in Detroit.

Speaking at the meeting will be Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Annette J. Berry who will discuss “Preparing for Trials During COVID.”

The plated dinner consists of chicken Marsala, pan seared branzino and vegetarian risotto.  Dinner also consists of artisan rolls, farmers style greens salad, vegetables, pasta, and potato..

Cost is $55 for ADTC members (includes two hour open bar) and $60 for non-members payable at the door (cash/check).  Attendees should park in the Beaubien parking garage. Parking will be validated.

Applications being accepted for Michigan Court of Appeals vacancy until Nov. 16
 

Applications are now being accepted for a seat on the Michigan Court of Appeals, 1st District, to replace vacating Judge Cynthia Stephens.

To be considered for this position, applicants must be a State Bar of Michigan member who meet the legal qualifications for this office. Applicants should be aware that to be appointed they must reside within the judicial district. Recent applicants for Court of Appeals, 1st District need not reapply.

Judicial appointment questionnaire, writing samples, resume, and supplemental documents must be submitted using the online portal at www.michigan.gov/appointments and received by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, November 16. Additional letters of recommendation can still be submitted after your initial submission to judicialappointments@michigan.gov.
