Annual New Lawyers vs. The Board Challenge hosted by OCBA

The New Lawyers Committee will once again face the Oakland County Bar Association Board of Directors for the 17th annual New Lawyers vs The Board Challenge.  The in person event will take place Thursday, March 10, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Top Golf, 500 Great Lakes Crossing Dr. in Auburn Hills.

The event will feature dinner, drinks, and friendly competition between the New Lawyers Committee and the board. The board will be looking to reclaim the trophy this year after losing it at last year’s virtual escape room challenge.

Everyone is welcome to join.  Attendees don’t have to be on the board or a member of the New Lawyers Committee, but they will have to pick a side to represent. Golf skills are also not required to participate—there is opportunity to register just as a spectator.

Cost for the event is $30 for participants and $20 for spectators.  To register, visit www.ocba.org and click on “events.”  For questions, contact Katie Tillinger at 248-334-3400 or ktillinger@ocba.org.

Family Treatment Court Virtual Training Series kicks off in March

The Michigan Judicial Institute will offer the Michigan Family Treatment Court (FTC) Virtual Training Series online beginning Thursday, March 10.

The four-session training series will focus specifically on Family Treatment Court (FTC) Best Practices Standards.

In these four sessions FTC teams will learn about the FTC Best Practice Standards, highlighting the importance of taking a family-centered approach, and explore how the best practice standards can be effectively operationalized.

Teams will learn the rationale and provisions of each best practice standard and then spend time in breakout rooms to discuss gaps, strategies, and next steps to implement best practices in FTC.

The series will take place with:

• Session 1 – March 10 – Standards 1 & 8

• Session 2 – May 24 – Standards 2 & 3

• Session 3 – July 19 – Standards 4 & 5

• Session 4 – September 22 – Standards 6 & 7

Registration for each training typically opens about 30 days before the training.  The Field Services Problem-Solving Court team will send a notification announcing the opening of registration.  All PSC trainings in 2022 will be held remotely via Zoom.

Registration will be open until Tuesday, March 8.

Once registration is approved, attendees will receive a confirmation e-mail with the Zoom credentials to join the webinar.
