Magistrates to discuss ‘Arraignments and Other Issues’


The Oakland County Bar Association will present “Arraignments and Other Issues: The Magistrate’s Perspective” as a webinar Tuesday, October 15, from noon to 1 p.m. via Zoom.

This interactive seminar will review arraignments, small-claims hearings, informal hearings, and bond setting. Attendees will hear the magistrate’s perspective to better prepare for court. Additionally, a Q&A session will be featured to address any questions.

Speaking at the webinar will be Oakland County 52-1 District Court Magistrate Michael Bosnic, Oakland County 52-4 District Court Magistrate Elizabeth C. Chiappelli, Oakland County 47th District Court Magistrate Michael E. Sawicky, Oakland County 52-3 District Court Magistrate Marie Soma, and moderator J. Randall Secontine of Law Office of J. Randall Secontine PLLC.

Credit has been approved with the OCBA for 1 Criminal credit and 1 Juvenile credit.

Cost for the webinar is $12 for OCBA members pre-registration and $25 for non-members pre-registration. Oakland County MIDC court appointed attorneys can attend for free.

SBM?law license renewal now open for 2024-2025


Michigan attorneys can now renew their State Bar of Michigan law license for the 2024-2025 bar year.

All attorneys are required to annually renew their license and complete mandatory regulation disclosures. The State Bar of Michigan uses an online system to make license renewals fast and convenient for Michigan attorneys.

Attorneys can renew their license in the online Member Area at michbar.org/MemberArea.

Attorneys also need to ensure that their contact information is up to date. (In the online Member Area, click “Manage” to check and/or edit contact information.) Rule 2 of the Rules Concerning the State Bar of Michigan requires all attorneys to keep a valid email address on file with the State Bar of Michigan. Reminder emails typically are sent to attorneys in October and November until their license renewal is complete.

The new license year begins on Oct.?1, 2024, and ends on Sept.?30, 2025.

The State Bar of Michigan administers the annual license renewal process for Michigan attorneys and distributes the funds as directed by the Michigan Supreme Court.
