State treasury launches E-lein recording process option

The Michigan Department of Treasury is going paperless and launching an E-lien recording process option for the state’s 83 counties.

Through a partnership with Simplifile, counties will be able to electronically receive a majority of state tax lien filings, lien releases and reinstatements online. 
Officials say the department will begin submitting documents electronically in early 2018.

“We continue to look at process improvements that make conducting business easier for taxpayers and local units of government,” said Lynn Boyes, director of Treasury’s Office of Collections. “

E-lien recording reduces bulk submissions, makes payments easier and automates document recording, reception and return. In addition, scanning, stamping and return mailing is eliminated.

Treasury will still continue to submit paper documents and payments by U.S. Mail to counties not currently E-recording.
