Woman facing attempted murder nabbed at border

DETROIT (AP) -- A woman facing attempted murder charges related to an alleged theft from her grandparents and an attempt to set their home on fire has been arrested at the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel. U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials say in a statement that 24-year-old Paris Smith was arrested Wednesday. The U.S. citizen was deported after Canadian authorities discovered her identity. Authorities don't know how Smith got into Canada. The Wayne County Prosecutor charged Smith in March with the attempted murder of her grandparents after she allegedly stole large amounts of money from them and tried to set their house ablaze to cover up the crime. It was not immediately clear if Smith had a lawyer. Inkster police took Smith into custody. She is expected to face charges in the Detroit suburb. Published: Fri, Dec 23, 2011
