Patterson announces trade delegation success

Oakland County's trade delegation in Greece has convinced representatives of companies from the Mobile App Developers of Greece Association and the Semiconductor Association of Greece who were considering moves to Silicon Valley to visit and consider expanding in Michigan, Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson said. Representatives from Oakland County, Butzel Long and Oakland University met last week with 45 companies which belong to the associations. "Oakland County's delegation had its work cut out for them," said Patterson, who remains in Italy for trade mission meetings there. "These companies had already decided that Silicon Valley is the place they needed to be. But our delegation's presentation changed their minds. They all came up afterward and said they were amazed with what Oakland County can offer them." These high-tech Greek companies, which were particularly impressed with Oakland County's highly technical work force, are now planning a group delegation to Oakland County this summer, Patterson added. Despite Greece's fiscal troubles, Greek businesses are seeking to expand operations in markets overseas, especially in the United States. Oakland County was invited to speak to this group of high-tech Greek companies by the U.S. Commercial Services Office at the U.S. Embassy. "With over 87 IT companies locating in Oakland County the past six years, we have built a hub of IT and mobile app development companies," Patterson said. "We have the work force and the business infrastructure for all IT companies--including Greek IT companies. We look forward to welcoming these great companies to Michigan this summer."
