GM partners with Detroit groups on urban garden

DETROIT (AP) -- General Motors Co. is partnering with a number of organizations on a community garden in southwest Detroit at the site of a former parking lot. The Detroit-based automaker hosted an event Wednesday to officially open "Cadillac Urban Gardens." Ideal Group, Southwest Detroit Environmental Vision, Detroit Dirt and others are involved in the effort. GM repurposed 250 vehicle part shipping crates to become raised garden beds at the site. The aim is to create a place for providing fresh, locally grown food. Published: Thu, Aug 2, 2012
