Role of social media in litigation focus of program
On Thursday, Jan. 17, the Social Media Committee of the Federal Bar Association (FBA), Eastern District of Michigan, will sponsor its inaugural event: a panel discussion on "The Role of Social Media in Federal Litigation."
U.S. District Magistrate Judge Laurie Michelson will join attorney Kevin Carlson and Don Wochna, chief legal officer at electronic forensics vendor Vestige Ltd., to discuss how this society-changing technology is affecting the practice of law in the court.
Topics of discussion will include identifying anonymous parties online; overcoming jurisdictional and procedural problems; and understanding discovery, admissibility, and evidence in social media.
The event will take place at the Auburn Hills campus of Cooley Law School and is co-sponsored by the school's FBA student chapter. The interactive discussion will run for 90 minutes, beginning at 9 a.m. A light continental breakfast will be served.
Admission is free to FBA members and students who submit a student membership application; $5 for non-members. To register, visit www.fbamich.org and click on "events."
