Auction raises funds for ABC

Access to Bankruptcy Court (ABC) hosted a Silent Auction and Charity Networking event on Thursday, Sept. 12, at the offices of Steveson & Bullock PLC in Southfield.

Happy to welcome guests to the event were (left to right) Judy Calton of Honigman, Miller, Schwartz, & Cohn LLP; Thomas M. Cooley Law School Prof. Lauren Rousseau; Tracy Clark of Steinberg, Shapiro, & Clark; U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Marci McIvor, Eastern District of Michigan; and Janet Ziulkowski of Ziulkowski & Associates PLC.

ABC is a charitable organization which raises money to pay lawyers to represent debtors who can’t afford an attorney.

“This is a pro bono program where the debtors don’t pay the attorneys anything and the idea is to allow people who don’t have access to attorneys and legal representation to have somebody that’s willing to take the time and make the effort to help them through the bankruptcy and represent them through the entire process,” said Ziulkowski, the organizer for the fund-raising event.

“It helps prevent them also from being victimized by bankruptcy petition preparers which has become a huge problem in this district and I’m sure throughout the entire United States.”
