Federal Bar presents Gilman Award, welcomes speaker

The Federal Bar Association (FBA), Eastern District of Michigan Chapter, hosted the 2014 Leonard R. Gilman Award Luncheon on Tuesday, April 29, at the Westin Book Cadillac in Detroit.

John Minock (far left) of Cramer, Minock, & Sweeney PLC was this year’s Leonard R. Gilman Award recipient.

Happy to congratulate Mincok were (left to right) guest speaker Michigan Supreme Court Justice Bridget McCormack, U.S. District Court Judge Judith Levy, and FBA President Michael Lee of Law Offices of Lee & Correll.

Throughout his career, Minock has specialized in criminal defense handling trials and appeals in both state and federal courts.  In 1976, he became one of the original members of the Criminal Defense Association of Michigan and since has served as a board member, vice president, and president.  He is currently chair of its Amicus Committee.

The Gilman Award is given annually to an outstanding practitioner of criminal law who exemplifies the excellence, professionalism, and commitment to public service of Len Gilman who was U.S. attorney at the time of his death in 1985.  The selection is made by prior recipients of the award, many of whom served with and knew Gilman.
