PHOTO 1: Longtime Wayne County Probate Court Chief Judge Milton Mack (right) was named as administrator of the state court system in June and officially started the job the end of last month. During a Tuesday, July 21, event at the Detroit Athletic Club marking Mack’s appointment, Michigan Supreme Court Chief Justice Robert P. Young Jr. (left) offered his congratulations and welcome. Mack replaces John Hohman Jr. whose retirement was announced in March. Young cited Mack’s leadership role in proposing concurrent jurisdiction to improve efficient and accountability.

PHOTO 2: Also offering Mack well wishes at the July 21 event were John Hertel (left) of SMART and former Wayne County Prosecutor John D. O’Hair (right).  Mack has been a probate judge since 1990 and chief judge since 1998. He served as a Wayne County Commissioner from 1983 to 2000 and city of Wayne councilman from 1979 to 1982. Mack is recognized nationally as a leader on mental-health issues and frequently speaks to judges and the legal community on topics such as end-of-life decisions and court technology. Officials said Mack will focus on three areas to improve service: measuring performance, implementing technology, and re-engineering court processes.
