Federal Courts Day observed

The Federal Bar Association’s Diversity Committee working jointly with the Just the Beginnings Foundation hosted area high schoolers for Federal Courts Day on Tuesday, Aug. 1, at the Theodore Levin U.S. Courthouse in Detroit. The aim of the event was to expose children to the legal profession. Speaking during the event were panelists (seated, left to right) Michael Carter of the Federal Defender Office; U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge Elizabeth Stafford, Eastern District of Michigan; and U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Mark Randon, Eastern District of Michigan; along with Assistant U.S. Attorney Barrington Wilkins (standing, far right). Joining the kids for lunch were (standing, left to right) U.S. District Court Judge Paul D. Borman and U.S. District Court Chief Judge Denise Page Hood. The students also observed a court proceeding, participated in a mock trial, and heard a presentation by the U.S. Marshals Service.
