News (AP) - Free tax preparation services available in Oakland County

Although this year's tax season is in the past, residents of Oakland County can now receive help through tax preparation services being provided this August.

Oakland Livingston Human Services Agency (OLHSA) and Lighthouse of Oakland County are working together with the Accounting Aid Society and the Tax Credit Initiative Coalition to provide these services free of charge. For residents who have not filed taxes for years 2006-2009, OLHSA and Lighthouse can help them prepare their taxes and receive as many credits as possible.

Tax preparation services are available at OLHSA, 196 Cesar E. Chavez in Pontiac, and Lighthouse, 46156 Woodward Ave. in Pontiac, by appointment only on Monday, Aug. 16, and Wednesday, Aug. 18. To schedule an appointmen,call (248) 209-2692.

In order to qualify for these free tax preparation services, income is evaluated based on the number of dependants. Services are available to single residents making $25,000 or less per year, and couples making $50,000 or less per year.

Those coming in for tax services should bring Social Security cards for every dependant and all W-2, Social Security Insurance, Social Security Assistance, pension and retirement documents.
