Miller Canfield lawyers  featured speakers at business meeting
Miller Canfield lawyers Richard A. Walawender and Aimee J. Jachym will be featured speakers at the International Business Group (IBG) of West Michigan’s Wednesday, Sept. 8 meeting, Global Automotive Industry: Ups and Downs in Changing Times, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Bravo! in Kalamazoo (5402 Portage Road). The pair will discuss the global automotive industry, including next generation vehicles, the impact of NAFTA and worldwide recalls and opportunities for businesses.

At Miller Canfield, Walawender is the director of the Corporate, International Business and Automotive teams. His specialties include mergers and acquisitions, corporate, securities and commercial law, international transactions and joint ventures. Jachym assists with an array of business transactions, using her background in business and international affairs. She has extensive teaching and business experience in both Michigan and Korea. She was elected to the IBG’s Board of Directors in June 2010.

National Asian Pacific ABA hosts annual conference Aug. 27
The Michigan affiliate of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA) hosts the third annual Central Regional Conference on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 27-28,  at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center. Conference fees are $150 (private sector attorneys), $110 (public sector, retired and solo practitioners and NAPABA members) and $80 (law students and recent graduates not yet accepted to the bar). Attendees may also elect to attend Friday night, Saturday or Saturday night only. FLAC to hold annual fundraiser Sept. 9
The Free Legal Aid Clinic (FLAC) will host its annual summer fund-raiser at Opus One restaurant in Detroit on Wednesday, Sept. 9, from 6-10 p.m. The event will include a silent auction, dinner, and live music, and serves as one of three major fund-raisers held by FLAC each year.
