Cooley Law School open houses scheduled
Cooley Law School will host open houses for prospective students on four Thursdays in October. The events will be conudcted from 4 to 7 p.m. on all four campuses: Auburn Hills (2630 Featherstone Road) on Oct. 7; Lansing (300 S. Capitol) on Oct. 14; Grand Rapids (111 Commerce Ave., SW) on Oct. 21; and Ann Arbor (3475 Plymouth Road) on Oct. 28.

The open houses are free and include tours, opportunities to meet staff, faculty and students, mock classes, and special sessions for accepted students and honors scholars.

Town hall meeting to focus on addiction in the legal community
Brighton Hospital, WLNS TV-6, and WHTV My18 will co-sponsor a town hall meeting about addiction in the legal community from 8 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 30, at Atrium Event Center, located at 2685 Jolly Road in Okemos.

J. Theodore Everingham, an attorney who owns Everingham & Associates in Grosse Pointe Farms and serves on the Brighton Hospital Board of Trustees, will host the meeting.

State Bar of Michigan Lawyers and Judges Assistance Program Administrator Martha Burkett and Brighton Hospital Vice President of Medical Affairs, Dr. Tony Dekker, will present educational materials.

There will be a question and answer period at the end of the meeting.

Members of the legal community, law students, medical service providers, and members of the general public are encouraged to attend this free event.

Attorney Discipline Board appointments announced by court
The Michigan Supreme Court Wednesday announced the following appointments to the Attorney Discipline Board:

• ADB chairperson William J. Danhof of Lansing, attorney and principal in the law firm of Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone, PLC. Danhof is reappointed as the ADB’s chair for a term ending Oct. 1, 2011.

• ADB vice-chair Thomas G. Kienbaum of Birmingham, attorney and member of the law firm of Kienbaum, Opperwall, Hardy & Pelton, PLC. Kienbaum is reappointed to a second full term as a member of the ADB for a term ending Oct. 1, 2013. He is also reappointed vice-chairperson for a term ending Oct. 1, 2011.

•ADB member Rosalind E. Griffin, M.D., of Farmington Hills, psychiatrist and assistant professor at the Wayne State University School of Medicine. Griffin is appointed to a first full term as a member of the ADB for a term ending Oct. 1, 2013.

The ADB appoints three-attorney panels, composed of volunteers, which hear attorney misconduct matters and recommend sanctions against attorneys who violate ethics rules.

The ADB also may review a hearing panel’s decision and can affirm or alter the level of discipline. An ADB order of discipline or dismissal may be appealed to the Michigan Supreme Court.

The ADB consists of six attorneys and three non-attorneys appointed by the Michigan Supreme Court; the appointees serve on a volunteer basis.
