WCCDBA to hold holiday party and food drive Dec. 16
The Wayne County Criminal Defense Bar Association (WCCDBA) has announced that their annual holiday party and food drive will be held on Dec. 16 at the Atheneum Hotel Ballroom, 1000 Brush St., Greektown from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The gathering is complimentary to all judges as well as Frank Murphy Hall of Justice employees, court staff, FMHJ sheriff deputies, and Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office clerical staff. There will be a suggested donation of $10 for all WCCDBA members and a $50 donation for assistant prosecutors and non-WCCDBA attorneys. Canned food items will be accepted at the event. Sponsored by the WCCDBA, proceeds from the vent will be provided to the Gleaner’s Food Bank.

Miller Canfield manager elected president of ALSP for Eastern Mich.
Miller Canfield practice support manager, Kim Nowosad, out of the firm’s Detroit office, has been appointed to a one year term as president of the Association of Litigation Support Professionals (ALSP) for the Eastern Michigan Chapter. 

The ALSP is dedicated to establishing global professional standards for the litigation support profession through collaboration, education and certification. 

At Miller Canfield, Nowosad is a member of the Electronic Discovery and Document Management team.He has 30 years of experience providing in-house counsel with e-discovery and litigation support services. He has also coordinated the design of litigation databases used by attorneys and paralegals and provided training in the use of these litigation support applications. Nowosad is an active member of the Litigation Support Vendors Association and serves as an Adjunct Professor in the paralegal studies department where he teaches Law Office Economics and Technology and e-Discovery at Madonna University. He received his M.S.F. from Walsh College and B.S. from the University of Detroit Mercy.

He resides in Macomb Township.

Holiday Hours
The Wayne County Clerk’s Office will be closed Friday, Dec. 24 through Monday, Jan. 3 and will re-open Tuesday, Jan. 4. Open Dec. 28, 29 and 30 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. will be: Circuit Court Civil Filings (Rm. 201) and Family Filings and Personal Protection Orders (Rm. 928) located in the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center; Criminal Division in the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice; Juvenile Division in the Lincoln Hall of Justice. Filings for Department of Human Services and Juvenile Assessment Center will be open from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. only.

The Office of the City Clerk (200 CAYMC) and the City Clerk Archives and Records Division (65) Cadillac Tower, Ste. 1600) will shut down for the holiday beginning Monday, Dec. 20 through Monday, Jan. 3. The City Clerk offices will reopen during its regular business hours on Wednesday, Jan. 5. (Tuesday, Jan. 4, is a budget-required furlough day.)
