OCBA President Grieco receives LAD’s Pro Bono Service Award
Legal Aid and Defender Association bestowed the 2011 Pro Bono Service Award of the Oakland County Bar Association on OCBA President Jennifer M. Grieco for her work in establishing the OCBA Mentor/Mentee Program. Lynda S. Krupp, managing attorney of LAD’s Private Attorney Involvement Unit, presented the award to Grieco at the OCBA’s annual meeting June 2.
“Ms. Grieco conceived this program as a way to assist those in Oakland County who need but cannot afford legal representation, while also serving new members of the OCBA who need mentoring as they establish their legal careers,” Krupp said. “She worked tirelessly to establish this program.”
Through the program, new OCBA attorneys handle pro bono cases from LAD or the Family Law Assistance Project.
The new attorneys are matched with experienced OCBA members who mentor them as they handle cases involving divorce, landlord tenant evictions, expungement of criminal records, and collections.
The program is already seen as a model for other bar associations in Michigan and throughout the country, Krupp said.
The program has also just received the prestigious Lexis-Nexis Award for Community and Educational Outreach from National Association of Bar Executives (NABE), Krupp said. The award will be presented at NABE’s annual meeting in Toronto, Canada, in August.

OCBA to hold golf outing on Aug. 1st

Birmingham Country Club will play host to the Oakland County Bar Association’s annual golf outing on Monday, Aug. 1.
Stout Risius Ross will serve as the lead sponsor of the event, which will feature a four-player scramble format beginning at 1 p.m. A luncheon will precede the outing, while an awards dinner will take place at 6 p.m. The cost is $215 per player for OCBA members, and $280 for non-members. Hole sponsorships cost $350.
Birmingham Country Club is located at 1750 Saxon Drive and features one of the premier golf courses in Oakland County, according to outing chairman Robert Morad.
“The OCBA’s Golf Committee worked hard to secure this phenomenal location where its members will be able to enjoy a day of golf and networking with fellow attorneys, judges, and supporters of the legal profession,” Morad said.
