Wayne Law to honor alumni, faculty member during reception at SBM Annual Meeting
Wayne State University Law School will host its yearly Wayne Law Alumni Reception at the State Bar of Michigan Annual Meeting on Thursday, Sept. 15. The reception will take place from 4:30-6 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency in Dearborn.

This year’s reception will honor Wayne Law alumni and State Bar of Michigan award recipients James K. Robinson, ’68 (posthumously), Hon. Milton Mack Jr., ’75, and Rebecca Shiemke, ’84. Also at the reception, the faculty recipient of the Law School’s Donald H. Gordon Award for Excellence in Teaching will be announced.

Alumni, faculty and friends are invited to join Wayne Law Dean Robert M. Ackerman at the event, as the reception will provide an opportunity for attendees to network and reconnect with fellow colleagues.

Attorney named vice-chair of Business Bankruptcy Committee of the ABA Business Law Section
Kay Standridge Kress, a partner with Pepper Hamilton LLP and member of the firm’s Corporate Restructuring and Bankruptcy Practice Group, has been named vice-chair of the Business Bankruptcy Committee of the American Bar Association’s Business Law Section for 2011-2014.

Kress practices in the firm’s Detroit office and focuses on corporate restructuring insolvency and bankruptcy matters. She is a Fellow in the American College of Bankruptcy, and is listed in The Best Lawyers in America. In 2011, she was recognized by Crain’s Detroit Business in its selection of “Area’s Top Lawyers.”

Kress’ appointment marks the first time in the history of the Business Bankruptcy Committee that the chair and vice-chair are both women. The current chair is Patricia A. Redmond of Sterns, Weaver, Miller, Weissler, Alhadef Sitterson, P.A in Miami. 

Kress has been actively involved in the ABA for over 16 years.
