Miller Canfield law firm expands China practice

The law firm of Miller Canfield announced last week that Yanping Wang has joined the firm as a principal and resident director of its Shanghai office, further expanding the firm’s international footprint. A native of China, Yanping Wang has been a Chinese lawyer and is licensed to practice in the U.S. She will join the firm’s Corporate Group and China Team, focusing on corporate transactions and assisting clients in doing business in and with China. She has extensive experience in corporate, customs protection, employment, foreign exchange, intellectual property, and real estate law.

Wang joins the firm’s expanding China Team. Miller Canfield also recently announced that lawyer Amber Liu joined the firm, working out of its Chicago office. A native of China, Liu has several years of experience as a corporate lawyer in China and in the U.S. She is licensed to practice in Illinois and New York and travels often between the U.S. and China.

 “Yanping Wang and Amber Liu are great additions to our growing China Team and help expand our services to clients. They bring vast China-U.S. business experience and legal knowledge, especially helping clients investing, exporting and operating in China,” said Richard A. Walawender, director of the firm’s Corporate Group.

Yanping Wang joins Miller Canfield from another U.S.-based firm, where she was partner-in-charge of its Shanghai office and co-chair of its China Group. She received her J.D. from the University of Kansas School of Law, and LL.M. in civil and commercial law from Renmin University of China and an LL.B. in law with honors from the China University of Political Science and Law.


Jaffe attorney voted president-elect of Mich. chapter of TMA


Paul R. Hage, an associate at Southfield-based Jaffe Raitt Heuer & Weiss, P.C., has been voted president-elect of the Michigan Chapter of The Turnaround Management Association.
Chicago-based Turnaround Management Association is an international nonprofit association comprised of attorneys, turnaround consultants, bankers and other professionals dedicated to turnaround management and corporate renewal.

Hage has been a member of TMA since 2007, and has served on the Michigan Chapter’s Board of Directors since 2010. He will begin his yearlong role as president in June of 2013.

A member of Jaffe’s insolvency and reorganization practice group, Hage has published dozens of articles on bankruptcy and speaks at national industry events throughout the year. He earned his bachelor’s degree from James Madison College at Michigan State University and his juris doctorate from Loyola University Chicago School of Law.
