Wayne State University Law School’s Damon J. Keith Center for Civil Rights sponsored an event called “Voices of the Dream” on Tuesday, Jan. 22, in the Law School’s Spencer M. Partrich Auditorium in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The program featured Dr. Clarence B. Jones (third from right), a former speechwriter and legal counsel to King. Jones discussed and signed his latest book, “Behind the Dream: The Making of the Speech that Transformed a Nation.” Jones began working with King in 1960, and stayed with him as an advisor and close friend throughout the remainder of King’s life, helping him draft the “I Have a Dream” speech. Also speaking at the program was Wayne Law alumnus Gregory Reed (second from right). He is founder of the Keeper of the Word Foundation and a former attorney to Rosa Parks. He signed copies of his new, award-winning book, “Obama Talks Back: Global Lessons – A Dialog with America’s Young Leaders.” Happy to present the speakers were (l-r) Wayne Law Prof. and Keith Center Director Peter Hammer, Wayne Law Interim Dean Jocelyn Benson, U.S Court of Appeals Judge Damon J. Keith, and John Telford.
