Legal Aid and Defender Association, Inc. conducted a free food stamp screening clinic March 14 at Rutherford Winans Academy with the help of pro bono attorneys from Ford Motor Co. and volunteer professionals from Covenant Clinic and Legal Aid for Children and Families, a medical-legal partnership between Beaumont Hospital and Legal Aid and Defender Association. Conducted by LAD's Private Attorney Involvement unit, the clinic was designed to identify children and families who are eligible for food stamps but do not receive them or who receive them but could qualify for larger grants.
“The food stamp clinics are an opportunity to assist eligible families identify resources that will help them redirect their limited income toward other basic needs including housing and utilities,” said Regina Thomas, deputy chief counsel-broad based advocacy of LAD's Civil Law Group.
