Lawyer forced out by budget cuts gets award
DETROIT (AP) — An attorney furloughed from the Wayne County prosecutor’s office has been honored with a prestigious award from his fellow Detroit-area lawyers.
Tim Baughman is the latest winner of the Leonard Gilman Award from the Federal Bar Association. Baughman has been head of research and appeals at the prosecutor’s office since 1986 but was recently laid off during a round of budget cuts.
Baughman has appeared seven times at the U.S. Supreme Court and argued dozens of cases at the Michigan Supreme Court. He says he's “humbled and proud” to win the Gilman award.

Whitney appointed to the Advisory Board of Practical Law Company
Ronald E. Whitney, a partner in the Corporate and Securities Department of Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP has been appointed to the advisory board of the Commercial Law section of the Practical Law Company, Inc. (PLC). PLC provides print- and web-based informational tools to attorneys and law firms globally across a range of complex legal subjects.
Whitney earned a J.D., with highest honors, from Columbia University and an LL.M. from New York University School of Law.  He received an M.B.A. in Finance and Information Systems from George Washington University and a B.Sc. in Mathematics from the University of Nebraska.

Firm hosts local ABA Women Rainmakers local program, April 23

On Tuesday, April 23, the American Bar Association (ABA) Women Rainmakers Local Program “Niche Marketing: Why, How To & Now What?” will be presented from 7:15 to 9 a.m. at the offices of Rader, Fishman, & Grauer, 39533 Woodward Avenue, #140, in Bloomfield Hills.
This fourth installment in the Women Rainmakers’ local programming initiative will focus on the power of niche marketing. In an interactive moderated program, attendees will explore why niche marketing works, how to choose a niche or two, and what steps to take to reach it.  Lawyers at every career stage will learn how to better focus their business development efforts and resources to get more results.
