Petz receives 2013 ‘One to Watch’ award from DMBA Barristers

Dickinson Wright attorney Scott A. Petz was named by the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association Barristers Section as the recipient of its 2013 “One to Watch” award. The annual award is presented to young attorneys based on their professional accomplishments that demonstrate not only their legal acumen and talent, but also their potential for future professional growth and achievements. Petz received his award at this year’s Outstanding Young Lawyers Awards ceremony on July 18.
 Petz is a litigation associate in the firm’s Detroit office. He focuses his practice in the areas of commercial and business litigation, class and collective actions, labor litigation, consumer protection, and condemnation and land use. Petz has collected a number of impressive early career achievements such as serving as lead defense counsel on behalf of a Fortune 500 company in a bench trial, which resulted in the dismissal of plaintiff’s claims. Petz is a member of the American Bar Association, the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association, the Oakland County Bar Association, and the Eastern District of Michigan Chapter of the Federal Bar Association. Petz has presented and published in the eDiscovery area and is a member of the firm’s LitTech and LPO Consulting Team. Petz received his B.A. from Kalamazoo College, cum laude, and his J.D. from The John Marshall Law School, magna cum laude.


WLAM-Wayne Region to hold Wine and Garden Party Aug. 27

The WLAM-Wayne Region will hold its Fifth annual “End of Summer Wine and Garden Party” in Grosse Pointe Woods at the home of the Honorable Lynne A. Pierce on Aug. 27 from 5:30-8 p.m. RSVPs should be sent to Judy Dahn, Esq. at dahn236@gmail.com by Aug. 21.
Ticket price if paid in advance is: $20 for students; $30 for members; and $35 for future members. Ticket price if paid at the door:  $25 for students; $35 for members; and $45 for future members.

LAD to hold free clinic on civil legal service

Legal Aid and Defender Association Inc. will conduct a free outreach clinic on civil legal services for income-eligible residents of Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne counties, including the city of Detroit, from 9 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 21, at the Tumaini Center, 3430 Third Ave. Attendees are asked to register before 10 a.m. as a LAD attorney will assist only those persons who have done so by that time.
