 WLA of Michigan Wayne Region to host holiday skating party Dec. 19

The Women Lawyers Association of Michigan Wayne Region Holiday Skating Party in the D (Skating Not Required!) will be held Thursday, Dec. 19, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Campus Martius Park and Fountain Bistro, 800 Woodward Avenue, in downtown Detroit. Bring your skates or rent on site and show off sit spins and stumbles. Or stay off the ice and take photos under the holiday lights, then warm up with food and drinks in Fountain Bistro. 

Skating is not required; fun and festivity are. Attendees cover their own costs, but registration is requested. Email elizabeth@yourbenchmarkcoach.com.
 

Honigman attorney to discuss city’s bankruptcy at CBA dinner 

The Consumer Bankruptcy Association (CBA) will host a dinner meeting featuring guest speaker Judy Calton, of Honigman, Miller, Schwartz, and Cohn LLP, discussing “Detroit’s Chapter 9 Bankruptcy Filing: A Primer.”  The meeting will take place Thursday, Dec. 19, at the Peking House, 215 S. Supreme Court, Court of Appeals announce holiday schedule
The Michigan Supreme Court, the Court of Appeals, and the State Court Administrative Office will be closed for the holidays on Tuesday, December 24; Wednesday, December 25; Tuesday, December 31; and Wednesday, January 1, 2014.
The Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, and SCAO will be open on Thursday, Dec. 26; Friday, Dec. 27; and Monday, Dec. 30.
 

Refugee rights subject of Human Rights Day celebration Jan. 7

 
In celebration of Human Rights Day, the Law Library of Congress will host a panel discussion on refugee rights from 1 to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 7.  
The event will be held in the Mumford Room, located on the sixth floor of the James Madison Building, 101 Independence Ave. S.E., Washington, D.C. Sponsored by the Friends of the Law Library of Congress and the Law Library, the event is free and open to the public. Tickets are not required.
Moderated by Peter Roudik, director of Global Legal Research at the Law Library of Congress, the panel will include Olivia Bueno, associate director of the International Refugee Rights Initiative (IRRI), author Linda Rabben and George Sadek, senior legal information analyst at the Law Library of Congress.
