 Administrator for Attorney Grievance Commission fired

The Michigan Supreme Court accepted the recommendation of the Attorney Grievance Commission that Robert Agacinski’s employment as Grievance Administrator be terminated.

After a thorough investigation, the Commission concluded that such recommendation to the Michigan Supreme Court was appropriate and necessary. Because the recommendation involves employee personnel matters, the Commissioners believe further comment would not be appropriate.
 

State Bar of Michigan Spring-Board event

WBA to host panel on U.S. high court’s ruling on affirmative action

On April 22, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld a change to the Michigan Constitution that forbids affirmative action by public colleges in the state. The Wolverine Bar Association is hosting a panel discussion regarding the controversial history of the ballot initiative that led to the amendment to the state constitution, and what should be done in the aftermath of the Schuette v. Coalition to Defend Affirmative Action decision. The panel will feature Jocelyn Benson, Wayne State University Law School Dean, Election Law & Education Law Professor and Founder of the MI Center for Election Law; Mark Bernstein, University of Michigan Regent; Godfrey Dillard, lead attorney for the interveners in the 2003 University of Michigan affirmative action cases; and Rep. Thomas Stallworth, Education Committee member. The event will be held 6:15 - 8 p.m. at the University of Michigan Detroit Center, 3663 Woodward Avenue. It is free and open to the public.
