ADC presents annual awards at banquet

 The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee’s (ADC) Michigan Regional Office  honored award recipients at its Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Awards Banquet on Wednesday, April 30 at the Byblos Banquet Hall in Dearborn, Michigan.   The event was an opportunity to shed light on the breaking news surrounding the filed lawsuit against Eastern Michigan University. 


The 2014 MLK Awards Recipients include: 

Congressman John D. Dingell will receive the ADC Michigan’s Lifetime Achievement Award for his indefatigable work fighting for justice and civil liberties in Michigan and across the United States. 

Stephen Henderson, the editorial page editor of the Detroit Free Press since January 2009, will be the recipient of the ADC Michigan Media Leadership Award for promoting balanced and fair coverage.

Leila Saba Hanna, who worked for the Michigan Department of Civil Rights for over 30 years will be the recipient of the ADC Michigan Leadership Award. 

Fattum Mutahr from General Motors will be the recipient of ADC Michigan’s Youth Leadership Award for her work with numerous youth-focused initiatives in the greater Detroit area focused on mentoring, career development, and leadership development.

Students from Eastern Michigan University and the Omani Students Association from the University of Michigan will each receive the ADC Michigan’s Community Award for their tireless efforts in promoting social justice and understanding in their respective communities.
