Butzel Long hosts ‘PBJ & Wine’ fundraiser on June 26 at Gleaners Community Food Bank

Butzel Long is hosting a “PBJ & Wine” fundraiser from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 26 at Gleaners Community Food Bank, located at 2131 Beaufait Street in Detroit. The suggested minimum donation for each attendee is $50 with 100 percent of the donation going directly to Gleaners.

In addition to unique peanut butter and jelly themed appetizers created by the Capuchin Soup Kitchen’s executive chef, there will be wine, live music and a silent auction.

“Butzel Long is celebrating its 160th year in 2014, a proud history that includes a long tradition of serving the metro Detroit community,” said

“The PB&J Wine event continues that tradition,” said Justin G. Klimko, president and managing shareholder of Butzel Long. “We are pleased to be able to support Gleaners’ work in serving those in need.”

“Earlier this year, the Butzel Long Women’s Leadership Committee collected 160 jars of peanut butter and jelly from firm employees to donate to Gleaners, in recognition of our 160 years as a Detroit-based business,” said Angela Emmerling Boufford, chair of the firm’s Women’s Leadership Committee, which inspires women attorneys in the firm to be leaders in business and the community. “The PBJ & Wine event evolved from that collection. More than 300,000 children in southeast Michigan rely on free or reduced-price meals in school.”

“Over the summer, when school is out, these children often go without the food they need,” she added. “The Gleaners Hunger Free Summer campaign will provide an additional two million meals to children in poverty in southeast Michigan from June to September 2014. Peanut butter, a source of much needed protein, and jelly are staple items for the mobile pantries that Gleaners operates over the summer in partnership with more than 60 schools as one part of the Hunger Free Summer campaign.”

The cost of the Peanut Butter, Jelly & Wine event is 100 percent underwritten by Butzel Long. All donations will be matched by the Gleaners Hunger Free Summer campaign thanks to the Charter One Foundation and other generous partners. “This means that a $50 donation becomes $100 to help feed hungry children in southeast Michigan this summer,” added Boufford.
