 Cooley Student Bar Association hosts speakers Oct. 20

Western Michigan University Cooley Law School’s Student Bar Association will host its Integrity in Our Communities speaker series, which will feature attorney Brian Laxton and Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Mary Ellen Brennan on Monday, Oct. 20, at noon at WMU-Cooley’s Auburn Hills campus, Room AH 145, 2630 Featherstone Road. 

The lunchtime speaker series offers students, staff, and faculty the opportunity to hear from attorneys, judges, and professionals on professionalism. 
The program is free and lunch will be provided. Reservations may be made by contacting tempah6@cooley.edu.
 

SBM section presents complimentary legal educational session

The Antitrust, Franchising & Trade Regulation Section of the State Bar of Michigan’s Franchise Practitioners Group will host a complimentary, educational session, “Franchise Law Update 2014: Labor & Employment,” on Friday, Oct. 24, from 8:30 a.m. to noon to discuss recent labor and employment developments and their potential impact on franchisors and franchisees. 
The session is closed to members of the media, but open to franchisors, franchisees, franchise lawyers, labor and employment lawyers, business lawyers, including in-house counsel, HR professionals, law students, and law professors.  
The update will take place at the offices of Jaffe, Raitt, Heuer, & Weiss, 27777 Franklin Road, Suite 2500, in Southfield.

Each year, the DMBA Foundation presents the Archer Award to an outstanding member of the legal profession who has established a career dedicated to the betterment of both our profession and our community. 
 
This year’s honoree is Congressman John D. Dingell, Jr. Congressman Dingell is the longest-serving member of the U.S. House of Representatives, having enjoyed the longest uninterrupted Congressional tenure in our nation's history. He is one of two World War II veterans serving in Congress, the current and longest-serving Dean of the House, and Dean of
Michigan’s congressional delegation. 

Join the DMBA?Foundation from 6-8:30 p.m. Nov. 6 at the Detroit Mercantile Company 3434 Russell St. Detroit, MI 48207 as it enjoys the hospitality and unique historic ambience of Detroit's Eastern Market and the Detroit Mercantile Company. 

The evening will include a strolling supper with full bar and a chance to explore the Mercantile's antique and vintage memorabilia from around the city and state. 
Registration is $125 per person, and proceeds benefit the DMBA Foundation’s Access to Justice and public service programs.
