Mark St. Peter, the CEO and managing director of Madison Heights-based all-in-one legal technology and support firm Computing Source, has pledged $10,000 to support the Access to Justice and community service work of the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association Foundation. The pledge is in the form of a Platinum-level sponsorship of the nonprofit’s 10th annual Dennis W. Archer Award for Public Service, which will be presented to Rep. John Dingell on Thursday, Nov. 6 at The Detroit Mercantile Co. in Detroit.
“The DMBA Foundation, and the attorneys and firms which support it, have been providing essential legal and community services in Detroit for almost fifty years – including years when a lot of other better-off people and companies left the city,” St. Peter said. “And even though Detroit is making a huge comeback, there will always be people who need them.”
“Computing Source is dedicated to giving back to the community in which we live and work, and to supporting the legal community that has supported us so strongly over the past decade,” said St. Peter. “Contributing these funds to those who need them is our way of saying thank you to the Foundation and the legal community, and helping to ensure these important services are around for another fifty years.”
With this pledge, Computing Source joins Archer sponsors including General Motors, Ford, Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Michigan, DTE, the United Auto Workers, and metro Detroit-area law firms including Bodman, Flood Law, Miller Canfield, and Plunkett Cooney. Close to $80,000 has been raised as of the deadline for this week’s issue.
“Mark and his firm have supported this event for years – we deeply appreciate that support, and are thrilled to receive such a substantial pledge from him this year,” said Archer Award Co-Chair Keith Altenburg of Comerica, which is also sponsoring the event. “We have ambitious plans for 2015, and Computing Source is going to help us realize them.”
Archer Award proceeds fund the DMBA Foundation’s Access to Justice and community service work including foster children’s charity For The Seventh Generation (www.fortheseventhgeneration.org), which is on track to serve more than 1,000 foster children, teens, and families in 2014 alone.
“Our entire Board of Trustees is very excited by this gift,” added Leo Nouhan, the event’s other co-chair. “Computing Source has helped insure that we’ll be able to coordinate the provision of legal services to Detroiters who wouldn’t otherwise have access to counsel and let us serve even more foster children in 2015.”
“This is fantastic news for the people we serve and for the long-term viability of our city,” he added. “By providing foster children with the things they need to thrive, and legal services to those in need, our work helps Detroiters lead more productive lives right now and into the future.”
Starting in 2004 with former Michigan Supreme Court Justice and Detroit Mayor Dennis W. Archer, the Archer Award has been presented every year to members of Michigan’s legal community who have set a high standard for professional excellence and public service. Recipients include Senator Carl Levin, former Governor Jennifer Granholm, the Honorable Damon J. Keith, and former Supreme Court Justice and Director of Michigan’s Department of Human Services, Maura Corrigan. Recent honorees include Judge Victoria Roberts (2012) and Judge Harold Hood (2013).
