Dimos named deputy executive director of ABA

The American Bar Association announced today that James Dimos, a partner with Frost Brown Todd in Indianapolis, will join the association as deputy executive director effective Monday, Aug. 31.

In his new role, Dimos will serve as second in charge of ABA staff and represent the executive director as needed. He will be responsible for several functional areas, including ensuring effective communications with ABA sections, divisions and forums. This will involve getting the insights of these ABA groups on pending issues and understanding their views.

Executive Director Jack Rives called Dimos “a most welcome addition to the ABA staff. Jim has an extraordinary background for this very senior leadership position on the American Bar Association staff. He’s been a bar leader at every level, including president of the Indiana State Bar and service on our Board of Governors,” Rives said. “He’s a perfect liaison to state and local bar associations and his years as a practicing attorney will also be invaluable.”

Dimos joins the ABA after nearly 30 years specializing in the litigation needs of the Indianapolis business community in the areas of antitrust, copyright, First Amendment and media, patent, product disparagement, trademark, trade secret and unfair competition. Dimos has represented a significant number of companies listed on the Fortune 100® as well as technology, music recording and television broadcasting companies.

“Jim is a talented lawyer and a wonderful partner, with passion for the legal profession,” said John Crockett, chairman of Frost Brown Todd. “We will miss him here at Frost Brown Todd, but are excited for him and proud of his selection to serve in senior leadership of the ABA.”

This month, Dimos was named to The Best Lawyers in America® for the ninth consecutive year and for the second year in a row was recognized as the Lawyer of the Year in Indianapolis (for Intellectual Property Litigation for 2015 and Trademark Law in 2016). He has served on the ABA Board of Governors from 2010-13 and as president of the Indiana State Bar Association in 2013-14 and the Indianapolis Bar Association in 2001.

“I am excited by the opportunity to devote all of my energies to the American Bar Association and its members,” Dimos said. “I look forward to working with the talented staff at the association and its dedicated members to serve the legal profession and America’s lawyers.”

Dimos graduated from Wabash College, in Crawfordville, Ind.  He received his law degree from Washington University School of Law in St. Louis. He is admitted to the United States Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, Seventh Circuit and Federal Circuit and the U.S. Court of Federal Claims.
