ABA section announces 2016 award winners

The American Bar Association Section of Administrative Law and Regulatory Practice announces the following award recipients for 2016:

Award for Scholarship in Administrative Law, recognizing the best work of administrative law scholarship for the prior year – Gillian E. Metzger, the Stanley H. Fuld Professor of Law at Columbia Law School, for “The Constitutional Duty to Supervise,” 124 Yale Law Journal 1836 (2015)

Mary C. Lawton Awards for Outstanding Government Service, for outstanding contributions at the federal and state levels to the development, implementation or improvement of administrative law and regulatory practice that reflects sustained excellence in performance – Judith S. Kaleta, deputy general counsel, U.S. Department of Transportation; and David Sullivan, special counsel to Massachusetts Senate President Stan Rosenberg

Gellhorn-Sargentich Law Student Essay Award, for an academic paper relating to administrative law written by a law student – Gugandeep Kaur of Boston University School of Law, for her essay “Indian Pharmaceutical Industry’s Compliance Problems with the United States Food and Drug Administration and Proposed Solutions”

Senior Fellows Award, for outstanding contributions to the field of administrative law – Judge Joseph B. Bluemel, District Court Judge for the Third Judicial District for Lincoln and Uinta counties, Wyoming, and section liaison to the ABA Board of Governors

Chair’s Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service – Cynthia Drew, editor-in-chief of section newsletter, “Administrative & Regulatory Law News”

The award recipients were announced at the Annual Section Awards Dinner, held Oct. 28 at American University College of Law in Washington, D.C.
