Dinsmore & Shohl LLP welcomes Jeremy J. Justice to the firm’s Detroit office. Justice will practice out of the Intellectual Property Department.

Justice was promoted from his position as a law clerk to an associate. As a law clerk, he drafted patent applications for the U.S. and PCT submission, researched trademarks and copyright cases, drafted responses to Office Actions, and contacted examiners for special petitions..

Justice earned his law degree from Wayne State University Law School. He earned both his M.S. in Engineering Management and B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Kettering University.

Collins, Einhorn, Farrell

Collins, Einhorn, Farrell PC is pleased to announce that attorney James J. Hunter has joined the firm’s Professional Liability practice group. Hunter will focus his practice on the defense of claims against a wide variety of professionals, including attorneys, health care professionals, dentists, and accountants. Before joining the firm, Hunter worked on complex litigation and federal white-collar criminal defense. He has experience representing business clients in healthcare fraud cases, wire and mail fraud, insider trading, antitrust investigations, and many high-profile cases including the Flint Water Crisis. Additionally, Hunter served as an assistant prosecuting attorney in Wayne County.

In 2007, Hunter graduated from Boston University with a Bachelor of Arts. He then went on to obtain his law defgree from American University, Washington College of Law, in 2010.

While in law school, Hunter clerked for the Office of the General Counsel for the Department of the Air Force at the Pentagon.

Hunter is a member of the Oakland County Bar Association and the Oakland County Sheriff’s Advisory Council. He served on the Executive Committee of CLEARCorps Detroit from 2012 to 2013.

Federal Judgeship Panel

Rodger D. Young, founder of the Farmington Hills based Young & Associates, and E. Powell Miller, founder of The Miller Law Firm in Rochester Hills, have been appointed to a committee tasked with screening applicants and making recommendations for federal judgeships in the Eastern District of Michigan.

“I am honored to have been appointed to serve our country in this important and impactful way,” said Young. “Our federal judges play a vital role in decisions that affect each of our lives every single day.”
Miller echoed the comments: “I take this role and responsibility very seriously,” said Miller. “This appointment is a tremendous opportunity to carefully and thoughtfully guide the decision-making process for our federal judges, who serve a critical role in interpreting our country’s laws.”

The committee is currently reviewing candidates to fill the seat held by the retiring Judge Gerald Rosen. Young was nominated to serve on the committee by Congressman David Trott, who represents the 11th District of Michigan, and Miller was nominated by Congressman Mike Bishop, who represents the 8th District of Michigan.

Young founded his firm in 1991, and has earned numerous state and national distinctions, including Best Lawyers in America, Super Lawyers, election to the American College of Trial Lawyers, and was selected as one of the 25 Leaders in the Law in Michigan. His experience includes gubernatorial appointments to the Michigan Environmental Review Board, the Michigan Transportation Commission, and a presidential appointment by former President George W. Bush to serve as a United States ambassador to the United Nations General Assembly in 2007-08.

Miller focuses his practice on all aspects of litigation and has been consistently named one of the Top 10 lawyers in Michigan by Super Lawyers Magazine, and in 2010 and 2015, he was the recipient of the Best Lawyers – Lawyer of the Year in the category of Bet-the-Company Litigation. Miller is co-president of the Detroit Chapter of the Federal Bar Association Antitrust Committee, serves on the Executive Committee for the Wayne State University Law School Board of Visitors, and lectures at the University of Michigan Law School.

Butzel Long


Butzel Long attorney and shareholder Clara DeMatteis Mager has been re-elected to serve a two-year term on the Board of Directors of the French American Chamber of Commerce (FACC) Michigan Chapter.
The French American Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit, membership-driven business association which is supported by globally-minded members with a particular interest in promoting French and American business relations.

As the Immigration Practice Department leader, Mager has been instrumental in growing the practice. Notably, Butzel Long received (Tier Two) recognition in the 2011-2016 “Best Law Firms,” rankings by U.S. News Media Group, the publisher of U.S. News & World Report and nationwide recognition by Chambers & Partners.

Mager focuses her practice on business and family immigration issues including all aspects of the international movement of personnel, inbound and outbound work-authorized nonimmigrant (temporary) and immigrant (permanent) status, immigration consequences of mergers, acquisitions, and corporate restructuring, employer sanctions, and immigration law audits.

She is a firm liaison to Lex Mundi, a global association of 160 independent law firms. She has served as chair and regional chair of the Lex Mundi Immigration Committee. She is very active with the Lex Mundi Pro Bono Foundation providing legal services to select “social entrepreneurs.” The Foundation is part of the global social entrepreneur movement for positive social change. She is active in the community working on pro bono immigration matters.

Mager is currently a board member of the Italian American Alliance for Business and Technology and Leonardo International Inc. She also is a member of the Federal Bar Association (previous member of the Leadership Council of the Immigration Committee), State Bar of Michigan (past chairperson of the International Law Section and previously held positions of chair-elect, secretary, treasurer, council member and chairperson of the Immigration Committee), Women Lawyers Bar Association and Italian American Bar Association (board member and past president).

She also was a board member and past chair of the J.D./L.L.B. Advisory Board, University of Detroit Mercy School of Law/University of Windsor Faculty of Law. She is a graduate of the Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce Leadership Detroit XXII Class. Mager is listed in The Best Lawyers in America (Immigration) and Michigan Super Lawyers (Immigration). Mager is a Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent Rated Lawyer.

Mager is a graduate of Wayne State University and of the Detroit College of Law.

Brooks Kushman is pleased to announce that Shareholder Frank Angileri was named Michigan’s IP Litigator of the Year by Managing Intellectual Property Magazine. 2017 marks the third consecutive year Angileri has been the recipient of this award.

Angileri, who also serves as co-chair of Brooks Kushman’s Post-Grant Proceedings practice, was awarded for his work across various technologies and industries including, automotive, consumer electronics, industrial technologies, food and beverage, and home appliances.

The award is given each year during the publication’s North American Awards dinner. As a nominated firm, members of Brooks Kushman attended the ceremony honoring the recognized attorneys in Washington D.C. on March 23.
