American Association for Justice honors local attorney with F. Scott Baldwin Award

Tiffany R. Ellis was awarded the 2018 F. Scott Baldwin Award by the American Association for Justice at its annual convention in Denver on July 8.

Ellis is an attorney with Seikaly, Stewart, and Bennett, P.C. in Farmington Hills.

The F. Scott Baldwin Award is presented annually to the “most outstanding young trial lawyer” in the country.

The award was established to honor and recognize F. Scott Baldwin of Marshall, Texas, a world-renowned trial lawyer, whose efforts have produced outstanding damage awards for injured victims and their families. The award is given to one or two lawyers annually who have made significant contribution to the New Lawyers Division of the AAJ and have attained one or more outstanding trial verdicts. Ellis shares the honor this year with an attorney from the public interest law firm Public Justice.

“Though I wish I never had to know the pain people experience in wake of the wrongs and tragedies they experience, helping to tell their stories is so important.  There are so many injustices in the world and people fighting to right them,” Ellis said. “To be recognized among such a tremendous group of advocates is an honor.  It humbles and energizes me to continue the fight for social justice – one case at a time.

Ellis was recognized primarily for being on the two-person trial team who secured a verdict in excess of $4.4 million earlier this year on behalf of a family who lost their father and husband in a tragic trucking crash.

Ellis has been active with the American Association for Justice since she was in law school. In addition, she serves on the Executive Committee of the Michigan Association for Justice, was the 2017-2018 president of the Detroit Bar Association Barristers, and now serves as a director for the Detroit Bar Association. Ellis is also active in various community and political groups including the Covenant House of Michigan Young Professional Society and Emerge Michigan.

Ellis is a 2004 graduate of the University of Missouri – Columbia and former political organizer. After leaving a position as chief of staff for the former New Jersey Office of the Child Advocate, she graduated in 2011 from Washington University in St. Louis School of Law, where she also earned her LLM in Intellectual Property and Technology in 2012. Tiffany grew up in Capac, MI and now lives in downtown Detroit.
