Six years ago, organizers of the annual Race Judicata agreed to a “change of venue,” electing to move the event organized by the Oakland County Bar Association principally because of construction activity at the former Andover High School, which opened in 2013 as the “new and improved” Bloomfield Hills High School.

The move to Covington Middle School in Bloomfield Hills, just a short trek from the event’s previous home, has produced a “kinder and gentler” race course for running and walking participants, eliminating some of the “very stiff hills” that spiced the 5-kilometer route from the old Andover site, according to officials with the OCBA.

In the 40th edition of the event on October 6, the flatter course helped produce impressive times for winners in the men’s and women’s divisions over the 3.1-mile distance.

Alexander Krasuski was the top male finisher in the 5-km race, crossing in 17:17, a slick 5:34 per mile pace. Placing second in the male division was Jeffrey Hicks with a 17:44 clocking, while Dominic Schmidt was third in 18:30.

Erica Shell took top honors in the women’s 5-km race, posting a time of 18:39, which equates to a 6:00 per mile pace. Leslie McIntyre was runner-up with a 23:34 effort, while Victoria Bellamy was third in 25:05.

In the team competition, a three-runner squad from Bodman was the class of the field with a collective time of 59:43. Placing second was a team from Bush Seyferth & Paige with a time of 1:01. The team from Jaffe was third with a 1:03 clocking.

Some 138 runners and walkers turned out for the event, which was held under sunny skies and near perfect fall race conditions. Mike Steinberger from Bush Seyferth & Paige served as chairman of the race committee, according to Katie Tillinger, membership director of the OCBA.

The Premier Sponsor of the 40th annual event was Dean & Fulkerson. Supporting sponsors, Tillinger indicated, were Jaffe and Harness Dickey & Pierce.
