The Detroit Legal Services Clinic provides information and advice from volunteer attorneys in the areas of divorce, child support, domestic relations issues, expungements, self-representation, and general civil law. • Federal Bar Association Eastern District 2019 State of the Court Luncheon
October 23

The Eastern District of Michigan Chapter of the Federal Bar Association will kick off its annual Luncheon Program on Wednesday, October 23, at the Atheneum Hotel. The reception will begin at 11:30 a.m., with luncheon following at 12 p.m. The featured speaker will be Chief Judge Denise Page Hood with the annual “State of the Court” address. • Women Lawyers Association of ­Michigan – Wayne Trivia Night

The Women Lawyers Association of Michigan – Wayne Trivia Night will be held from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, October 24 at Detroit Vineyards, 1000 Gratiot Ave. in Detroit. • Roadways to the Federal Bench: Who, Me? A Bankruptcy Judge?
October 24

The Judicial Conference of the United States Committee on the Administration of the Bankruptcy System presents “Roadways to the Federal Bench: Who, Me? A Bankruptcy Judge?”  from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, October 24 at the Theodore Levin U.S. Courthouse, 231 W. Lafayette in Detroit. The Judicial Conference of the U.S. Committee on the Administration of the Bankruptcy System is hosting a simultaneous, nationwide event occurring live in 19 cities, including Detroit. The event is open to all lawyers and law students. There is no charge to attend but registration is required due to limited space and availability. • State Bar of Michigan Appellate Practice ­Section to host
Writing Workshop
October 25

The State Bar of Michigan Appellate Practice Section will host its Writing Workshop on Friday, October 25 beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Michigan Hall of Justice, 925 W. Ottawa St. in Lansing. The day-long program will focus on stories and themes in appellate writing. The event will close with a networking reception from 5-7 p.m. The cost to attend the full-day workshop, which includes lunch and the reception, is $35 for APS members, and $50 for all other registrants. The cost to attend only the afternoon session, which includes the reception, is the same. There is no cost to attend the business meeting, but it does not include the reception.
