‘Lawlapalooza 2022’ set to fight ALS Aug. 12

(BridgeTower Newsmedia) — The Magic Bag in Ferndale is the place to be on Aug. 12 for Lawlapalooza 2022 — a rock n’ roll show featuring lawyer musicians from several metro Detroit firms.

These attorneys are getting ready to rock the night away in an effort to raise money for the ALS Therapy Development Institute.

The event has a lofty goal — to raise $20,000 in donations and sponsorships for the ALS TDI, a non-profit organization dedicated to discovering effective treatments to stop the disease progression of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS, is also known as Lou Gherig’s Disease.

ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that attacks motor neurons on the brain and spinal cord. .

Greg Jones, an employment lawyer at Gasiorek Morgan in Farmington Hills, was one of the driving forces behind the event. He is the guitarist for The 3148s band, formed about six years ago.

“As attorneys, we feel that it is our calling to help those who need it,” Jones said in a press release. “We try to do that on a daily basis through our day-jobs, so we figured we ought to do the same with our passions for live music. We could think of few causes more worthy than trying to put a stop to ALS, which has devastated the lives of so many.”

In addition to Jones’s band, the evening’s lineup includes other attorney-driven bands like The Common Scolds and Shasta Fox, and an acoustic performance by Cameron Getto of Zausmer.

Doors will at 7 p.m. with Derek Kevra of Fox 2 News and Pulitzer-prize-winning journalist M.L. Elrick hosting the event. The Magic Bag is on Woodward Avenue just north of 9 Mile in Ferndale

Tickets can be purchased in advance for $20 or at the door for $25. All proceeds go to ALS TDI. For ticket sales, direct donations to ALS TDI or more information, visit www.lawlapalooza.org.
