OMC hosts graduation of mediators from Cooley on Thursday, April 8

Oakland Mediation Center (OMC) will graduate its fourth class of mediators from Thomas M. Cooley Law School, Auburn Hills Campus, on Thursday, April 8, 2010 at 4:00p.m. Chief Nanci Grant from the 6th Circuit Court, Cooley's Assistant Dean Martha Moore, and Diane Kratz, Supervisor, Caseflow Management Office, 6th Circuit Court will speak at the event, to be held at OMC's office in Bloomfield Hills.

The class of 14 students participated in this program as a result of a partnership between OMC and Cooley. The program was developed in an effort to increase the number of mediators available to resolve conflicts in Oakland County without the need for court intervention. Students were given the opportunity to learn and to practice mediation skills.

The 14 students who participated in the program are: Ernesto Bridgnanan, Auburn Hills, MI; Sandra Francis, Windsor, Canada; Lauren Frederick, Palm City, FL; Gail Knapp, Flint, MI; Amit Nayar, Brampton, Canada; Melissa Neumann, Commerce Twp, MI; Andrea Raymond, Farmington Hills, MI; Scott Robbins, Farmington Hills, MI; Marianne Schouten, Bloomfield Hills, MI; Christen Suszek, Grand Blanc, MI; Heather Taylor-Willockx, Rochester Hills, MI; Daniel Wagnitz, Clawson, MI; Casey Williams, Stuart, FL; Alfred Willockx, Rochester Hills, MI.

The program creates a win-win for OMC and Cooley by providing experiential training and practical experience to Cooley students while developing highly-trained mediators. Oakland Mediation Center is a private non-profit organization that has served the community since 1989 by providing mediation services for individuals, businesses, courts, schools and agencies; 40-hour Civil, Domestic and Advanced Mediator training; free Internet safety presentations; and bully-proofing, conflict resolution, peer mediation and diversity training in schools.
