There are a lot of Wayne State University Law School alumni in the Grand Rapids area — over 300, in fact. And more than two dozen of them got together last Thursday to share memories and cheer at the accommodating and well-located Ottawa Tavern “Bite” restaurant in downtown Grand Rapids.

Among those attending was Suzanne Johnson, the current president of the Wayne State Alumni Association Board. The board consists of 36 members, and they meet monthly.

The mission of the association, says Johnson on the web site, http://law.wayne.edu/alumni/, is “to be a professional network, a point of connection to the School, and a resource for the students and the School.” The association holds new lawyer seminars, and alumni “have participated in student events that make us visible to current and future Wayne Law students.”

There was also a current Wayne Law student, Margaret Stalker, who is spending her summer as an associate at Warner Norcross and Judd.

Also at the event were Dean Robert Ackerman and Alumni Officer Kathryn Koehler, to welcome people and make the event run smoothly. Commented Koehler, “We were delighted by the warm reception we received from our alumni at the event. It was a great opportunity for us to let them know that we value them and their participation. I was very happy when several attendees told us they want to start an Alumni Association chapter in Grand Rapids. This means more Wayne Law alumni events and a greater presence in Grand Rapids in the future.” Those interested may call Koehler at 313-577-6199 or email her at klkoehler@wayne.edu.
