Former U.S. Congessman elected to Thomas M. Cooley Law School board

Bart Stupak, former U.S. Congressman, has been elected to a four-year term on the board of directors of the Thomas M. Cooley Law School. He served in the United States House of Representatives representing Michigan’s First Congressional District from 1993 to 2011 and is currently a partner with Venable LLP in the firm’s legislative and government affairs group.
Cooley Law School President Don LeDuc said, “We are honored that Bart has agreed to serve on Cooley’s board of directors. Bart’s 18 years as a U.S. Congressman shows his dedication to stewardship. He is a fine example for our current and future students.”

Stupak looks forward to serving on Cooley’s board. “I am honored to be on the team that advances Cooley’s mission of creating practice-ready attorneys and offering access to those who seek the opportunity to study law, while meeting Cooley’s rigorous academic standards. It is a privilege to join the board of directors of Cooley Law School and I look forward to my service.”

Stupak began his career in public service as a police officer in Escanaba, Mich. He also played an important role in the passage of H.R. 3590, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010.

In spring 2011, Stupak was a Fellow at the Institute of Politics, Harvard University, John F. Kennedy School of Government.
