Managing Intellectual Property names eight Honigman attorneys “IP Stars”

Eight Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP intellectual property attorneys have been recognized as 2014 IP Stars in a directory published by Managing Intellectual Property. They are: Jennifer Sheehan Anderson, Joseph V. Coppola, Sr., J. Michael Huget, James F. Kamp, Anessa Owen Kramer, Michael A. Lisi, Jonathan P. O’Brien and Leigh C. Taggart.
 
Of these, Jonathan P. O’Brien, Ph.D., works out of the Kalamazoo office. He is the chair of Honigman’s IP Department and leads the firm’s Patent Practice Group. He concentrates his practice on life sciences (pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device), industrial chemistry, battery technology and nanotechnology. O’Brien provides clients with global IP strategies related to procurement and enforcement, product clearance, and various transactional and regulatory issues. Since he became chair of the firm’s Intellectual Property Department in 2008, it has quadrupled in size to more than 75 legal professionals.
 

Long-time Grand Rapids lawyer Floyd Gates, Jr., joins Miller Canfield

Miller Canfield announces that Floyd E. Gates, Jr. has joined the Grand Rapids office as senior counsel. He has more than 16 years of experience as a litigator and a corporate and banking attorney.
 
He advises financial institutions, business and insurance carriers throughout the U.S.

He received his J.D. (1998) from Wayne State University Law School and his B.S. (1992) from Michigan State University. He served 12 years in the United States Army Reserves as a communications specialist attached to the Federal Emergency Management Agency and a legal specialist attached to a Judge Advocate’s (JAG) office. 
 
He resides in Rockford.
